Many people who own pets think of them as family members and will go all out to include dogs, cats and other critters in their Halloween festivities. This includes trick-or-treating, handing out candy, costume parties or even celebrating at a friend or family member's house. Nothing quite says Halloween than having your pet running around dressed as Superman, Zorro or even Buzz Lightyear!

Today, pet costumes are extremely popular. You can find them on just about every Halloween website. What started as a cute little idea of "dress up" for your dog has turned into a huge craze in pet costumes. In many ways picking out the perfect costume for your pet is much like picking out a costume for yourself or your children. Your pet has its own personality and owners are tapping into that when they go out and look for a costume. Also there are many more pet costume contests than there were in years past. You can send in pictures of your dressed up pet online and your local pet stores always have a Halloween costume contest. There are prizes for the "cutest" pet costume, the "scariest" pet costume, the "funniest" pet costume, even the best "group" pet costumes. You have to admit that when you see a picture of a Dachshund (aka - wiener dog) dressed up in a long hot dog bun, you have to smile!Photobucket

So this year, don't just dress up your kids, dress up your dog as well. It's a fun and inexpensive way to make Halloween a night for the whole family!

Pet Costumes For Your Furry Friends

Don't you sometimes see your pooch giving you a puzzled expression as you hurriedly get dressed in the morning? It must be wondering, "what if I had clothes too?"! Well, now you can actually dress up your furry friends, the way you want. There are a lot of costumes available today for pets of all kinds- be it a dog, cat or even a parrot!

Pet costumes can be a lot of fun for both you and your pet. Now you don't have to wrack your brains to win that pet competition you had your eye on. You can do away with stitching costumes for your pets on Halloween too. Just browse the various shops and you'll see what a great collection there is for Animal Costumes and Pet Halloween Costumes that are custom made for your pets. These costumes can have shirts, capes and halos, though they certainly aren't limited to just that. Some of the more simple and popular costumes are based on superhero themes, mainly the ones that aren't over-dressed or wearing anything tight! An example of a good animal costume is an angel. However, it may be difficult to get your pet to wear the halo or to get the halo to stay on.

When it comes to costumes for pets, dogs take away the limelight. Since dogs are man's best friends, they have to be kept happy! There's an amazing amount of Dog Costumes available now, to dress up your pooch. If you have a friendly, sociable dog who likes children, gets along well with other dogs, and is comfortable wearing a costume, you can enter him in a pet parade or a costume contest and see him shine!

Apart from general costumes, there's also ample variety for pets on Halloween. Pet Halloween Costumes made especially for dogs and cats are designed to stay in place, fit comfortably, and allow unrestricted movement of the animal. The simplest costumes include a headpiece with a cape or some type of collar or ruffle. These two-piece sets make it easy to dress your dog or cat as a witch, a devil, a clown or even a regal king or queen! Pant or jumpsuit type costumes, essentially for dogs, fit over it's front legs. Many of these have little arms and legs attached to give the illusion that the dog is standing upright. They're available as super heroes, pirates, cheerleaders, biker dogs, rag dolls, firemen and and other cute characters. Many of these costumes include a head piece to complete the look.

Some dogs, however, will not take well to wearing a costume as it is not natural for an animal to be dressed up. You may have to gradually ease your dog into the costume. Letting the pet sniff and get used to the costume can be a good idea. You probably shouldn't slip your pet's costume on all at once or your pet will most likely respond by biting and scratching at the costume.

Dressing up your pet, though is a fun activity, can also be a tedious job. Not all pets will stay cool, calm and composed about being dressed up for Halloween. Dogs will only cooperate if a costume is not terribly annoying to them. For others, a costume might be fine, but something like a hat can be quite uncomfortable for them. However, there are also dogs who really do enjoy being dressed up. They love the attention that goes along with it and they seem to think it's a perfectly natural thing to do!

Before struggling with your pet's costume, keep a few pointers in mind:
Masks are a strict no-no, you don't want your pet getting suffocated

Make sure that while putting on the costume, your pet can see, hear and breathe properly

Make sure that the fit around the costume neckline is not too tight, or you may strangle your pet

If your pet shows signs of discomfort like chewing or pawing, try and make it accustomed to the costume

While choosing a costume for your pet, go for a lightweight fabric that won't cause your pet to generate too much heat

Strictly avoid using beads, loose dangling accessories and other small objects on a costume as they can be a choking hazard

Don't leave your pet unattended.

If your pet gets nervous and upset while getting dressed, you can simply make it wear a cotton t-shirt or a colorful Halloween print collar or bandana for your dog.

Dog Clothes For Summer - Choosing the Right Fashions For a Pampered Pet

When summer arrives, dog owners grab their pooch and head outdoors for a walk. Dressing a dog in apparel may seem strange, but haut couture can make any canine's summer extra fun. The doggie breeds that usually need clothing are Chihuahuas, Miniature Pinschers, Miniature Poodles, Dachshunds, Chinese Crested and all terrier breeds. Your Labrador or Doberman can dress up for fun, too. Summer fashions aren't needed on a dog except for sun protection. Pet Parents just like to play fetch with that dog wearing a camo tank top for a cute photo or to attract attention, and that's okay. There are several staple pieces of clothing you need for your canine's wardrobe.

Tank tops are great for going to the beach or any other outdoor adventure. Camouflage is a popular pattern for all dog clothes, and tank tops are no different. A camo tank with mesh fabric on the side provides extra ventilation on hot summer days. Sports jerseys are perfect for going to a baseball game or hitting the basketball court. Football jerseys often come in colors of pro teams and are great for kickoff time.

Summer is also the time to shop for the perfect dog collar. This is necessary for hounds that don't want clothes to put on at all. Rhinestone collars are made for the pooch with sophisticated style, and leather collars are a fashionable, basic piece for any doggie. Of course, no summer vacation would be complete without a carrier to go with Fido's summer attire. A floral print carrier for your pet is a great design for the warm, relaxing vacations, and will give poochie a comfy place to rest on long road trips. Summer is a time to play dress up with your furry baby.

Fun Ideas For Pet Halloween Costumes

Halloween has been traditionally a night for the parents and kids to go trick or treating from house to house in their neighborhood. Today it seems that the family pet is also coming along for the fun. If you look at the parents watching their kids on the sidewalk, most of the time there is a dog standing there with them on the leash. A good idea is that since Fido is along for the fun you should dress him or her up in a pet Halloween costume. That may sound weird, but there are festivals all over the United States where people dress up their pets for fun and contests. Why can’t your pet join in the Halloween fun and wear a pet Halloween costume also?
Pet Halloween costumes can be bought at the major big lot pet stores and even Wal-mart and Target carry a small selection. They are a little expensive but if you want to spend the money, you can buy a pet Halloween custom that is as elaborate as those that are made for humans. You can dress your dog up as a princess, a devil, or cow. It is amazing of how much choice there is out there. The worst chore to accomplish when picking out your dog’s Halloween costume is to size it correctly. If your dog is not used to wearing clothes, a costume to big can cause the animal to trip or the dog may try to wiggle out of it.
It may be simpler to make your own pet Halloween costume. You can probably find the items that you need laying around your house. A simple pet Halloween costume can be just a hat. Find an old had around the house and attach a Velcro strip to the house using staples or, if you handy, sew it into the head band. You might want to practice with your dog to wear the hat. If they are not used to it they will try to paw it off. It would be to no avail if you didn’t train your dog and Halloween came along and the dog would not wear the hat. Some accessories that you can add to your dog’s hat are sunglasses and a bandanna. Your cool pooch will impress the neighbors and might get a little more candy from the houses that you visit Halloween eve.
Other pet Halloween costumes can be a little more elaborate or they could accompany the costume that your child is wearing. A popular toddler Halloween costume is to dress up as a puppy. Wouldn’t it be great to have your big dog standing with your toddler as the mommy dog? Use your imagination and try to dress the dog up as a nurse or a nanny. For small dogs, you can dress them up like babies and have your child play the nanny as she carts the pooch in a baby stroller or holds them wrapped in a blanket. Your imagination and creativity are the only limits of what you can do to include your pet in the Halloween celebration and what pet Halloween costume you can come up with it.
